Trains from Prague

Praha hlavní nádraží (Prague Main Station) is the city's primary rail hub, located in the New Town district within walking distance of Wenceslas Square. It handles most long-distance and international trains. The station has a metro connection (line C), luggage storage, currency exchange, and ticket counters. Praha Holešovice station also serves some international routes heading north.

Prague has direct rail connections to Vienna, Budapest, Berlin, Munich, Dresden, Bratislava, Warsaw, and Zürich, among others. Several routes are served by comfortable long-distance trains with dining cars. Journey times vary, Vienna and Berlin are each roughly four hours. Check current timetables and book through the booking widget for up-to-date options and availability.

You can buy tickets at station counters, from yellow self-service machines at most stations, or online through České dráhy (Czech Railways). Booking in advance online typically offers better fares than buying at the station on the day. For international routes, RegioJet and Leo Express also operate services and sell tickets through their own apps and websites.

There is no direct train from Václav Havel Airport to central Prague. The standard public transit route is bus 119 to Nádraží Veleslavín metro station, then metro line An into the center. A rail connection to the airport has been planned but is not yet operational. Taxis and rideshare services are available outside the terminal.

Most long-distance Czech trains offer both first and second class seating. First class is typically quieter with more legroom. Many trains on major routes have power outlets, Wi-Fi, and a bistro or dining car. Private operators like RegioJet are known for onboard service including complimentary hot drinks and entertainment screens in some classes.

Praha hlavní nádraží has staffed left-luggage counters and coin-operated lockers available throughout the day. Lockers come in different sizes to fit backpacks or larger suitcases. Keep your receipt or locker code safe. There are also luggage storage services near Old Town Square if you need to store bags away from the station.

Kutná Hora, known for the Sedlec Ossuary, is roughly an hour by train. Karlštejn Castle is reachable in about 40 minutes from Praha hlavní nádraží. Český Krumlov takes longer but is doable as a full day trip. Plzeň, home of Pilsner beer, is about an hour and a half. All routes run frequent service throughout the day.
